WEDDING PLANNING IDEAS bella tips for the most memorable wedding!

WEDDING FAVORS GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT- why edible favors are a hot trend

Guests don’t usually attend a wedding with the expectation that they will be getting something in return, but providing your guests with wedding favors, is a great way of thanking them for attending. Providing favors for guests has nearly become a must in the rules of etiquette.

Popular favor items include sweet-smelling sachets, pretty picture frames, ornaments, candles or candleholders, wine stoppers, or other personalized mementos, all designed with the bride and groom’s chosen theme in mind. However, as couples are concerned with spending money on a favor that their guests will not need or even use, trends are turning to edible favors.

Candy has long been considered an easy and thoughtful gift for guests. Candy-coated Jordan almonds are a traditional favorite, thought to symbolize the combination of sweet and bitter that comes with every marriage. For a new spin on an old practice, look to your presentation. An interesting favor box or creative candy holder can turn a traditional confection into an extraordinary gift. Glassine envelopes secured with a bit of ribbon or other interesting closure will make a truly sophisticated favor. Or present your candy in a more theme oriented holder such as a genuine seashell for a beach wedding, or a silver fortune cookie for an Asian inspired event.

Another welcome edible favor is a personalized mint tin. These tins, similar to those that Altoids come in, can be filled with mints, gum or other small candies and customized with a colorful leaf pattern for a fall wedding, a cool snowflake pattern for a winter wedding, or simply the bride and groom’s names and event date in flowing script. Some brides-to-be choose to give these tins to their bridal shower attendees, and other couples send them out before their wedding as a “save the date” announcement. Nary a purse can be found these days without a tin of mints inside, so this idea will surely be well received!

Many couples choose to vary from the candy theme with another kind of sweet confection and gift their guests with custom decorated cookies. From whimsical cookies decorated to look like the bride and groom themselves, to beautifully designed, intricate cake cookies like the ones that Trista and Ryan gave away during the Bachelorette wedding, there are hundreds of unique cookies to choose from. Whether elaborate and elegant or simple and fun, decorated cookies are appreciated by anyone with a sweet tooth.

An idea that arose from the “Starbucks on every corner” theme are personalized coffee and tea favors. With the wedding couple’s names and marriage date embossed on the front, specially blended coffees and teas can be presented in tins, packets, or even clear tubes to make a handsome gift. Gifts of coffees or teas can also be given in small baskets and accompanied by tiny demitasse spoons, heart shaped coffee scoops and decorated sugar cubes specially designed to match the wedding theme.

For a touch of panache, a bottle of wine or champagne makes a beautiful wedding favor. These can be given with glasses etched with the bride and groom’s names or embroidered wine bags that can be used again after the wine or champagne are gone. Bottles of wine can also be ordered with personalized labels depicting the event date. Take these vineyard inspired favors to the next level with a wine stopper engraved with a special message.

What favor you give your guests matters less than the fact that your family and friends know how much you appreciated their presence at your marriage. Whatever favors you decide upon, making them unique and personal will ensure that a small token of your affection also serves as a lasting reminder of your beautiful wedding day.
